Nokia PC Suite, great application for Nokia mobiles management



Nokia PC Suite is a freeware solution offered by the Nokia Corp for phone management as well as backup/restoration of data for the Nokia mobile phones. This specific application is designed mostly for older models of Nokia phones and for users not in need of multiple data types to manage and quick access to their data. During development, Nokia PC Suite has kept the original and simple interface with all the buttons and tabs aligned in a small rectangle frame. The left side contains the phone connection wizard button and the toolbar options and on the right side we have the actual management buttons. When hovering the mouse over a button, an explanation for what that button does, appears in the lower right side of the interface. These are the available functionalities: Backup, Synchronize, Connect to the Internet, Contacts, Messages, Calendar, File Manager, Store Images, Transfer Videos, Install applications, Explore Music, Check Phone Software and Download Maps. We will take each option separately and explain what it does.

Click here to connect a phone opens up the Get Connected wizard. This wizard contains 4 steps for completion. The second step presents three types of connections: Cable connection, Infrared connection and Bluetooth connection. When clicking the next arrow, each connection type opens up the specific step. The final step marks the successful completion of the wizard.

Backup opens up the Nokia content copier with the possibility to backup and restore all the data from the mobile phone or the PC. When the option has been selected, users will need to choose what to backup and what to restore and from where.

Synchronize allows the phone to be synced with the PC after the button has been clicked. Users can also choose synchronization settings.

Connect to the internet allows the phone to be used as a modem and share the internet connection with the PC.
Contacts opens up the Nokia communication centre. Here users can see all the available contact details including mobile phone number, type of phone, email address, company and physical address if any of this information has been included when the contact has been added to the phone on the first time. New contacts can also be created, edited or deleted from the list. A help file is available to assist first time users manage this specific area.
Messages opens up the SMS list containing details such as the sender, receiver, message content, date of the message, type of the message and size of the SMS. Messages can also be created, edited, opened, replied, forwarded or deleted.

Calendar contains daily, weekly and monthly view of events with the possibility to add new ones to the list. Events can also be edited and removed if needed.

File manager opens up the windows application and has the Nokia memory card as root. It is called Nokia Phone browser and as the name suggests, users can manage all the file types from there directly on the memory card.
Store images refers to the image management module. Users can view, change, transfer and remove images present on the phone.

Transfer videos opens up the Nokia Video Manager. This manager helps users to transfer their video files between the PC and the phone and also view the video gallery on the phone. Another great functionality is that videos can be converted to a compatible format with the phone on the fly. With the manager, videos can also be searched and added from the PC or certain folders automatically.

Install applications takes the applications from the PC and installs them on the phone directly. Drag and drop is also supported for faster and easier management. Apps can also be edited and deleted from the mobile phone. If supported, information is shown about the specific application when it is selected on the mobile device.
Explore Music prompts for installing the Ovi Player. This player is specifically designed for the Nokia devices for music files playing and management.

Update phone software handled device firmware and other application updates. If any are found, it will alert the mobile phone user and will update them automatically when the button is selected.

Maps handles the Nokia Ovi maps application. With this, users can install maps for navigation on their Nokia mobile phone, update existing maps or remove maps. This application is a very useful one in managing the Nokia devices and also backup and restore data from them.
